Q. CorelDraw X8 came out recently so when can I expect the upgrade for my software so that it is compatible with it?
A. Due to the current instability with X8 and the many updates that are being applied to it, many of which involving VBA. Laser Jump Start has chosen to postpone any major work on software updates until X8 has reached a stable point. Future updates may be made to allow our programs to work on the new versions.
Q. CorelDraw versions X7/X8 have been available for some time, when can I expect the LJS main program upgrades to be completed so I can start using the LJS programs in CorelDraw versions X7/X8?
A. Laser Jump Start has developed some upgrades for CorelDraw X7/X8; however, some program features are not compatible with CorelDraw versions X7/X8 at this point. Instead of releasing upgrades with reduced features; we've decided to hold release until full compatibility is reached and CorelDraw has released their X8 update enabling our software to function normally with the standard installation process. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.
Q. I see the options for Plug, Plug w/ Hole, and Lid but I don't know what the differences are?
A. The Lid feature creates a piece that will close off the Top/Bottom of the project using the tabs of the sides (in the example below you can see the overall helmet lid that has been engraved):
The Plug Feature creates an outline of small squares that when placed and cut out of a larger object allow the original outline to be "Plugged" into it. The Plug feature turns a larger piece of material or project into the Top/Bottom of the project (in the example below you can see the plugs in the back of the larger piece of material):
The Plug w/ Hole feature is a combination of the Lid and Plug feature. It creates a Top/Bottom piece that will look very similar to a lid, but it is a Plug w/ Hole piece and can be distinguished by the corners of the piece. This piece is then placed on another larger object similar to how the Plug feature works to create an opening in the object with walls along the sides all the way from Top to the Bottom. (You can see an example of this in the torsion box picture below):
Plug w/ Hole: Lid:
Q. I am trying to do an interior outline within an outline and it keeps saying my artwork is too complex?
A. Two things may be causing this message; 1) If the Plug w/Hole option was selected, or 2) If an excessive amount of nodes are present in specific locations or if an overlapping of lines was present on the artwork. The Plug w/ Hole feature when used for an interior outline within an outline may cause this issue, for the BoxIt Suite program is trying to create a cutout within a cutout, which is an invalid process. The nodes become an issue when they create small ridges that BoxIt tries to process; however, due to the small size and the high number of node volume, the process is invalid. The best method to fix this invalid processing issue is by node editing your artwork outlines and to remove unnecessary nodes prior to BoxIt processing.
Q. I don’t have CorelDraw, can I still use the BoxIt Suite program.
A. No, you cannot use the BoxIt Suite program without CorelDraw. The BoxIt Suite program operates within CorelDraw; therefore, CorelDraw is required prior to BoxIt Suite installation. The BoxIt Suite is compatible with CorelDraw Versions 12, X3, X4, X5 and X6.
Q. Could I familiarize myself with the program by reviewing the manual?
A. Yes, Laser Jump Start strongly encourages new users to review the BoxIt Suite program manual prior to use. The BoxIt Suite manual is available on the program installation disc or within the program zip folder of the Download.
Q. I have multiple computers, can I use the same BoxIt Suite program disk/download to install on all my computers?
A. Yes, you may use the same install disc/download to install your BoxIt Suite program on multiple computers. Please note that your purchased program disc/download serial number is valid for one computer installation. A. The BoxIt Suite allows you an opportunity for additional growth and product offerings by developing unique products that apply toward your current niche, or can supplement your current niche market.
Q. My business does not have a niche market. How can the BoxIt Suite enhance my business?
A. If your business does not have a niche market, the BoxIt Suite software program provides unlimited product design opportunities to cut unique, personalized, and functional products to help create your business’s niche market. Many Laser Jump Start customers have designed their business plans based on incorporating the BoxIt Suite, FlexIt Suite, FrameIt Suite, and ARTWelder software design tools into their product designs and offerings.
Q. What type of training will I receive with my BoxIt Suite program purchase?
A. You will have a comprehensive manual included on the disk or within the program download offering feature and capability definitions in addition to user and product assembly tips. If you wish to learn more, Laser Jump Start has included Bonus Projects and training videos within the BoxIt Suite program to help new users increase their user knowledge of each BoxIt Suite capability.
Q. The BoxIt Suite’s list price is high in comparison to other macro programs, why is that?
A. When you buy the BoxIt Suite you are actually receiving 6 different capabilities in one program. You receive BoxIt, CartonIt, Cube-In-A-Cube, Platform, Shadowbox, and Torsion Box all within one program. Each capability; therefore, is under $45.00 each. Therefore, when you order the BoxIt Suite program, you receive a complete suite of design tools to help increase your business opportunities for only $269! The BoxIt Suite program can pay for itself within selling just a few products created using the BoxIt Suite program; therefore, additional sales offer increased returns! One of the best benefits of using the BoxIt Suite program in product design is personal/company ownership of the designs and the ease of use for future orders.
A. The cutting kerf is the width of the laser beam cut when cutting through a piece of material. This displacement can be measured by simply cutting a 1” x 1” square with your laser. Measure the cut out square with calipers, this measurement will be smaller than 1”. Subtract the measurement of the square, (e.g., 0.996”) from 1”. For example, if the cut out square measures 0.996” then your cutting kerf if 0.004”. You will use this cutting kerf measurement within your BoxIt Suite settings when using the desired material. The cutting kerf varies with different material types, so please make sure to determine your laser’s cutting kerf for your desired material prior to BoxIt processing. The BoxIt Suite program has cutting kerf compensation; therefore, the size of the BoxIt created pieces may be tight or loose depending on the user’s specifications. For example, if looser assembly is desired and the normal cutting kerf for your given material is 0.004”, input into the cutting kerf field a smaller measurement (e.g. 0.003”).
Q. I am very excited about the new capabilities I will have using the BoxIt Suite program! I have told many of my customers about the new products I can offer them. I don’t have time to read the manual; I need to get these orders processed ASAP! Can’t I just follow the Quick Install and Getting Started page and start using the program immediately?
A. Its wonderful that your customers are so excited about the new products you can produce. However, you need to take the time and read the manual before you start making products for resale. It’s very important that you spend the extra time upfront to gain a solid program understanding; otherwise you may become frustrated on how to perform different operations due to the lack of program knowledge. Laser Jump Start wants you to be successful with the BoxIt Suite, so we strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with the entire program to take full advantage of all the BoxIt Suite capabilities. The time you spend upfront familiarizing yourself with the program will pay off in the long-run. Give yourself and your business the jump start you both deserve—first read and view the learning materials we have provided for you!
Q. My BoxIt Suite program is not installing properly. What should I do?
A. When in doubt, follow the Quick Install/Getting Started Guide and program manual. If the Standard Install process is not working for you, try the Manual Installation. You may have to reinstall your version of CorelDraw if Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) was not originally selected during your CorelDraw installation. Please note that the BoxIt Suite program requires VBA to operate, so please make sure your version of CorelDraw has VBA installed.
Q. One of the program capabilities is not working properly. What should I do?
A. Double check your settings first and review the manual. If your settings are correct please call Laser Jump Start at 208-697-5587 or email LJS technical support at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
Q. Does my one-time purchase of the BoxIt Suite give me lifetime program upgrades?
A. New program versions that offer additional capabilities will require an additional purchase to take full advantage of the upgraded program. You will be allowed a significant discount to purchase these new capabilities if LJS offers new versions of the BoxIt Suite software in the future.
Q. I have multiple CorelDraw versions installed on my computer, please explain any installation differences I might encounter when installing the BoxIt Suite software in different versions of CorelDraw in either Windows XP, Windows 7, or Windows 8 operating systems?
A. Different versions of CorelDraw have subtle installation variations when working in different operating systems. Please refer to the installation chart on page 2 of your BoxIt Suite manual or provided below for your convenience. The installation variations do not pertain to the BoxIt Suite program; however, the variations pertain to the version of CorelDraw software and how the version operates under different operating systems. For example, CorelDraw version X5 was designed for Windows 7 and allows the BoxIt Suite program to install very easily on Windows 7 operating systems. However, older versions of CorelDraw, while they may install in Windows 7, do not operate as easily in the Windows 7 environment. LJS has provided updates for CorelDraw version X4 to assist with the BoxIt Suite installation. Please keep in mind, in most cases the manual installation only takes a few minutes longer and can resolve many installation issues. See refer to the installation chart below for an installation guide.

Q. My artwork outline has a considerable amount of detail; as a result the lines are not straight and in some cases jagged. The BoxIt Suite created pieces have an unusual design as a result. What can I do to make this problem go away?
A. You have too many artwork deviations. Therefore, (depending on the thickness of your material) the BoxIt Suite program is trying to design pieces thinner than your material. Since your design has small jagged edges, many of the BoxIt created pieces have additional lines and sections and are unusable for your project. The additional lines represent small BoxIt parts that are impossible to complete. The BoxIt Suite program performed the desired operation correctly; however, the original artwork design was not appropriately for BoxIt processing. LJS recommends changing the multiple jagged lines in your original artwork to a single curved line and allowing the program to convert the curves to the least number of BoxIt parts. The result will be similar to the original artwork; however, the BoxIt pieces will be easier to assemble with this design modification.
Q. I am trying to do a simple 2″ cube using .192″ wood. My tabs are set to .375, and I’ve measured my cutting kerf at .014. Every time I cut, the pieces will not fit. The tabs are larger than the holes by .019″. When I moved my cutting kerf up to .020″, the tabs increased in size to .029″ bigger than the slots. It looks like the cutting kerf is being applied to the wrong piece. Should I be using a negative number for the cutting kerf or is there another setting I am missing?
A. Your cutting kerf is too large. An error may have resulted when measuring, for your cutting kerf is most likely half of the 0.014” to equal 0.007”. Please remember, your cutting kerf value is measured in thousandths of an inch (e.g. 0.004” 0.006”). In order to make your BoxIt parts tighter, this may seem counter intuitive, but you would input a larger cutting kerf value. For example, if your cutting kerf is 0.004″ and you input the kerf to be 0.006″, then your parts will fit very tight, if the parts are too tight, you may want to input 0.005” for easier assembly.
Q. Why do I have to pay extra to install BoxIt on my other computers? After all, Corel lets me install the program on several computers. Your company seems very greedy.
A. We originally planned on including 2 extra seat licenses for the BoxIt Suite program (3 installs) at $395 along with a printed manual and more elaborate packaging. Laser Jump Start believes laser users should have access to our laser software solutions for their business at affordable pricing. We want all laser users to have the opportunity to benefit from our laser software; therefore, extra seat licenses were removed and packaging scaled down to pass on the savings to our customers. Many customers do not have a need for extra seat licenses (extra installations); therefore, we didn’t want to charge customers for extra seat licenses they were not going to use.
You indicated that you thought our company was “greedy” for applying a charge for extra installations; however, our company is very fair and honest. We want to point out that our software is extremely complex in its capabilities; however very user friendly—this is our goal when developing our software programs. The BoxIt Suite took in excess of 5 years to develop through a highly skilled team of engineers, computer programmers, and laser users. The development costs associated with the BoxIt Suite program have yet to be recovered, and may take several years before these costs are met. The software was intended for laser users hence we do not have a broad market in which to sell our products. Therefore, Laser Jump Start’s software programs are seemingly more expensive than other software solutions.
